a third day in New Orleans
Jan. 14th, 2009 09:39 pmFirst, I will sing the praises of tylenol pm. The little blue and blue pills helped with the back pain (from the stupid convention center chairs and concrete bed) and the sleep issues. It's always good for me to wake up with slobber on a sleeve. Too bad that I didn't count the number of pills in my container, since I have zero pills for tonight.
The morning session passed quickly, with each of us wrangling with a monster spreadsheet. It drives the work and the results, so the huddle leaders like for everyone to play with the thing at least once for familiarization purposes.
Three of my cadre and another fellow walked a couple of blocks to a local deli for lunch. I ate half of a buffalo chicken caesar wrap, and wished I had ordered the "Italian Stallion" that I originally wanted to order.
After lunch, we split into cadres to practice screening. Since the room was cramped, and there weren't enough outlets for all of our laptops, some cadres were given "conference room" keys. It freaked me out when one of my guys just said to "come to room 304." I looked at my travel buddy, wondering if he thought it a bit weird that we were going to Lloyd's room. We stood outside of 304 for a good 90 seconds, wondering if Lloyd had been portrayed on America's Most Wanted or To Catch a Predator. My buddy knocked, and Lloyd opened the door to a room with a round conference table. Bizarre. Regular rooms on the left and right (since mine is just down the hall), but not that one.
One last presentation all together, then dismissed by 4 pm.
Brought all my crap to the room, then headed back to the lobby/bar to wait for my travel buddy. He said that he would take me for beignets. Two hours later, when I finally called his room, he had already eaten dinner and sounded groggy. So much for beignets. I tagged along with three others to a fabulous little restaurant inside a bank building. I ate the best etoufee I've ever tasted. Happy tummy.
Tomorrow morning, the goal is beignets and some photos before the airport shuttle arrives, then hopefully safe travel home.
