Southern Comfort -different. Documentary. Female-to-Male trans is dying of ovarian cancer, and doctors refuse to treat him. Story of him, the M-t-F trans girlfriend that shares his life, and the big national gathering of trans society, "Southern Comfort" [My boys in Dallas were quoting a movie one evening, and I thought they had said it was this movie. I've never directly asked (since watching it in August) whether this is the one they enjoy.]
Stagedoor - good. Documentary. Theater camp in the Catskill Mountains for the aspiring Broadway stars. Online rumors of big Hollywood stars getting their start at this summer camp.
Murderball - good. Documentary. Quadriplegics who play full-contact rugby in custom wheelchairs.
Palindromes - terrible. I don't think I've yet figured out the plot.
Unknown White Male - ok. Documentary. Man woke up in Coney Island with total amnesia.
Water - didn't watch more than 2 minutes. Indian film. Subtitles weren't big enough to read.
The World According to Sesame Street - excellent. Documentary. The Sesame Street production team creates the show for Bangladesh and Serbia/Albania.
History of the show, from creation, with insights into how children learn.
La Pianiste - disturbing, terrible. French film. Young man persues his masochistic piano teacher.
Chumscrubber - disturbing. Teenager finds his friend dead. Life around him is surreal. (How in the world did the director, who only has one other film to his credits, get big stars like Glen Close, Ralph Fiennes, Rita Wilson, and Allison Janney to be in this very weird little movie?)
Blockbuster
Take the Lead - bad. Antonio Banderas teaches high school students how to dance.
Akeelah and the Bee - good. Little girl tries to go to National Spelling Bee.
Theater
Come Early Morning- bad. [The writing is bad, the cinematography is bad, and the editing is bad. However, I like Ashley Judd and Joey Lauren Adams. I still won't recommend it.] 30-something woman who drinks too much lives a troublesome life. [Laura Prepon does a great job as the roomate.]
