Friday morning, I got up at my usual time and packed for a two-day vacation in Mountain View, Arkansas.
Mountain View is home to the Ozark Folk Center, a state park dedicated to preservation of Ozark heritage (craft, music, dance). I got to the center, and found my way to the first workshop (a bit late given my creative no-map-I'll-just-figure-it-out method of navigation), Southern Big Sets and then Unconventional Contras. One of the reasons that I love contra dancing is that everyone has fun. It was no different yesterday.

It was in the Unconventional dancing that I got dizzy (dadgum swing-your-partner, circle left, swing your neighbor, ladies chain), and with complete lack of grace I fell flat on my ass. There wasn't much fuss, since I popped right back up and kept dancing.

Lunchtime came, and I headed to the sandwich shop with other dancers. I enjoyed a small peanut-butter-and-jelly with a really cold bottle of water. We had good conversation about others who were missing (heart attack, oh my).

I chose to take a nap after lunch rather than attend Long Lines, Short Dances. I went back out for Flamenco workshop.

I then went to the Flatfoot & Buck dancing workshop. The leader from the first two contra classes is a well-known flatfoot and buck dancer from North Carolina. It was dark on that stage, so my photos didn't turn out well. I took some video with my camera, but I had my camera sideways (duh, can't turn the video counterclockwise like a photo).

I took the evening break and headed to the town square, looking for the little groups of musicians that always gather. After sitting for an hour, I gave up and went back to the folk center. Sadly, I realized that I missed the Jig Contest when I arrived at the auditorium early for the evening concert. The music was good; it makes me wonder if I want to take more weekend vacations in Mountain View since I enjoy it so much. After the concert, I headed back to the cabin. I realized that my right foot was having some sharp pain in the heel. I took a few ibuprofen and went to bed.

This morning, I knew my foot was in trouble. Instead of going to the contra classes and seeing the noon clogging show, I hobbled to the car and drove home. I've had an ice pack on my heel on/off throughout the day. Hopefully tomorrow I can walk on it without wincing. I need a speedy recovery, since Becoming an Outdoors Woman is next weekend.

back pain

She's being social tonight.  She's got a limp on her front right leg, but I think that I'll watch it a couple of days (at least until the vets office is open) and see if it's just soreness from the 20-ft fall.  Boy kitty had been terrified for about 18 hours.  He'd been trembling and skulking around with his tail between his legs.  He doesn't have any reference point for what all happened.  He just heard the men outside, the chainsaws cutting down the dead tree, and smells the dirt/blood/yuck on her.  Every time he got near her, he sniffed her face and started growling and hissing. I got a washcloth wet with warm water, and slowly cleaned her face, chin, neck, and back.  She seemed to enjoy it, maybe understanding that I was caring for her and cleaning her gently.  He's calmed down, getting signals from her and me that everything is ok.  I've seen her eating, so I think we're going to be ok.

My mom has 14 punctures in her thumb.  She went to the doctor today.  I just hope that the tree boy has enough common sense to do the same.

My body is sore.  I got pulled to the ground and dragged along by the two neighbor dogs when I tried to get them from their back yard to my garage.  I took drugs to sleep last night, and slept most of today.  So much for my productive weekend.

This morning I had a third appointment with the new chiro guy, who I really like. The first trip I was in a massive amount of pain. My x-rays have a serious case of wonk from that visit. Now three zapper treatments, three acupunctures, two massages, two heat packs, one cold pack, and three trials of pops with the activator gun... I am almost pain-free.
Yah Yah.
It's nice to not wince and grab the iron headboard to help wrench myself over during the night. It's nice to be able to stand and walk across the room. It's nice to feel my hip joints release pressure with a big ol' POP when I slowly rotate my legs.

back pain continues

cat pooped on the floor again

dryer tumbles, but doesn't heat - with a full load of jeans, khaki pants, work shirts, and sweatshirts hung around the house

chinese restaurant had cold food but refused to heat or not charge for the food

have even more grading to do

Went to a chiropractor today to see if he could do anything to relieve the back pain. The x-rays show more deterioration/damage than x-rays from a year ago.  Also have one muscle causing serious enough trouble that the inflammation showed up on the x-ray. It's caused one hip to be higher than the other and some twisting of the vertebrae.

He did the little tingly shocker pads, the heat pads, a back massage, acupuncture, and the little activator pop gun.   Something in that list, or everything in that list has made a difference.  Enough of a difference for me to get GOOD sleep this afternoon.

Knit Nite rescheduled for tonight!

(Meatloaf still good. Back still hurts. Cat still leaving excrement outside of the box.)

Federal employees were released at 10 am due to icy weather.

I'm afraid that it will freeze on the roads and I'll miss knit nite.

On the upside, I can take a muscle relaxer and maybe get some rest.

I've got pain in my right side. It's almost as if someone has taken a big stickpin and shoved it straight down from the top of my right hip, down to mid-thigh. Whatever I did to deserve the voodoo, I apologize. Please stop.

1) build fire after lunch because it's cold in apartment (and rainy outside)
2) get BIG LOG to keep fire going around 6.30
3) squat, to protect sqeamish lower back muscles, while lowering BIG LOG into fire
4) lose precarious balance and face quick decision: fall forward into fire or fall backward onto ass
5) fall on ass
6) injure back
7) curse
8) cry
9) reach cell phone and call momma (literally... I've fallen and I can't get up.)
10) answer her nurse questions
11) follow her instructions for getting up while cursing (yes, I'm going to hell)
12) take DRUGS (hi darvocet!)
13) creep to bed
14) curse
